Happy Retreat Request for Qualifications

More great music is on tap for the festival next weekend!  Join us as we welcome The Max Kool Quintet!  Assembled specifically for the Happy Retreat Wine and Jazz Festival, the Max Kool Quintet is comprised of some of the finest musicians on the East Coast.

Since 1981, Bruce Swaim (saxophone) has been active in studio work and live performance with artists from both jazz and popular genres and has received two awards for Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year from the Washington Area Music Association.

John Previti (bass) began his professional career in 1976 with Danny Gatton and played with him over a span of 18 years. Since that time, John has been a free-lance musician working with Charlie Byrd, Doc Cheatham, Herb Ellis and Les Paul, among others.

Drummer Brooks Tegler leads jazz groups of various sizes, from trios up to 17-piece big bands and has played all over the world with such greats as Milt Hinton, Junior Mance, Danny Gatton, and Jimmy Heath.

A professional guitarist/singer for over 40 years, Don Oehser plays a wide variety of musical genres, playing with acts such as Catfish Hodge, Tom Principato, Ron Holloway, SwingSpeak, among others, as well as fronting his own groups and performing solo.

Sam Jannotta has played piano and keyboards with various jazz, rock, and R&B bands for over 35 years. He is currently the keyboardist for the jazz/funk band, Ginada Pinata,  also plays regularly with straight-ahead jazz groups, and teaches full-time at The Shepherdstown School of Music.
