April 7-8, 2016
Shepherd University Symposium on the History and Restoration Of Happy Retreat
Visit the symposium website for the official schedule and to RSVP.
This year’s Phi Alpha Theta symposium will be held on April 8 and 9 at Happy Retreat, home of Charles Washington, George Washington’s younger brother, and the founder of Charles Town, West Virginia.
The symposium will bring awareness to the Happy Retreat home; a former home of the Washington’s and currently the subject of local preservation efforts. We hope to aid these preservation efforts and educate the public on historic preservation ethics.
Keynote speaker:
Dr. Philip Mead – George Washington’s Canvas Home: The History and Memory of the Revolutionary War Headquarters and Sleeping Marquee
